Barcelona and Spain star Pedri Gonzalez sat down with ‘RTVE’ to discuss a range of topics, including his admiration for Julian Alvarez.
Spain face a pivotal encounter on Thursday against Uruguay as they battle to secure top spot in their group. Ahead of the showdown, Pedri sat down with ‘RTVE’ to reflect on the challenges ahead.
“They are an intense side who never surrender possession easily. It will be a gruelling, difficult match; they are playing for everything. I expect them to give their all. Regardless of the physicality, it is a contact sport, so that is just part of the game,” he began.
Discussing his tactical preferences, the midfielder noted: “I feel more comfortable dropping slightly deeper. I perform better as an ‘8’, where I see more of the ball and stay constantly involved in the build-up. However, I can operate in both positions, and I will do my best wherever Luis asks me to play.”
Regarding his fitness levels, he remained optimistic: “I have had no concerns regarding injuries. It is true that when you take a knock or suffer a minor issue, you worry about the layoff, simply because this tournament is so compact and moves so quickly.”
The playmaker also addressed the speculation linking Julian Alvarez with a move to FC Barcelona: “A lot of factors would need to align for that to happen, and I do not want to get involved in club business or another player’s affairs. As a player, I love Julian, and I have always said I want the best talent at Barca. If it happens, he would be more than welcome.”
“I was fortunate enough to play alongside him and enjoy his quality on the pitch and in training. For me, he is the greatest in history. What he is achieving at his age is something only he could pull off,” he added, regarding the World Cup performances of Leo Messi.
Finally, he offered his congratulations to Cucurella following his move to Madrid: “I wish him nothing but the best. He is a player who deserves to be at a major club because he is a top-tier talent, and I am very happy for him.”
