Ahead of PSG’s UEFA Super Cup showdown with Aston Villa, Luis Enrique spoke to UEFA about the historic task facing his side this season.
On the back of successive Champions League titles, the manager is targeting a place in the history books: “We face a unique challenge, something practically unprecedented in European football history: matching Real Madrid”.
The Spanish giants remain the only club to have secured three consecutive continental crowns, a milestone that the Asturian believes would propel PSG to “another level”.
Luis Enrique was quick to dismiss any suggestion that Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup clash is of secondary importance: “I have no doubt whatsoever that the Super Cup is a truly important trophy and that Aston Villa will pose a fierce challenge”.
