Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel praised debutant Senne Lammens for his composed performance in the club’s latest clean sheet, while cautioning that sterner challenges lie ahead.
Peter Schmeichel expressed satisfaction with Manchester United’s defensive display after the final whistle, commending the team for securing a rare clean sheet.
Speaking on the Monday Night Club via BBC, the former goalkeeper noted that mistakes in recent years have damaged the club’s reputation.
“You think about the goalkeepers we’ve had and how many goals we’ve conceded from errors – nine already this season – it’s too much,” he observed.
“It’s nice to see a clean sheet and a solid performance because that’s something we’ve not seen for a while.” Schmeichel singled out young Belgian Senne Lammens for praise following his debut, highlighting his maturity between the posts.
“This young lad (Senne Lammens) didn’t have much to do for a long time, but he did well when called upon. You could see his confidence grow after that first save,” he said.
However, the Dane warned that true quality will only be proven under genuine pressure. “We’ll really see what kind of goalkeeper he is when he makes mistakes and has to respond to them.”
