Kepa Arrizabalaga could make European football history on Saturday in the most unusual fashion imaginable.
If Arsenal defeat Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final at the Puskas Arena, the Spanish goalkeeper would become only the third player ever to win the competition with three different clubs. Yet remarkably, he could achieve the feat without ever playing in a final.
The former Athletic Club keeper already owns Champions League medals from his spells at Chelsea in 2021 and Real Madrid in 2024. Now, with Arsenal chasing the first European crown in the club’s history, Kepa stands one match away from joining an extremely exclusive list.
Until now, only Clarence Seedorf and Samuel Eto’o have lifted the trophy with three different clubs.
Seedorf remains the benchmark. The Dutch midfielder won the competition with Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan across a legendary European career that included five finals and four titles.
