A dream night at the Sinigaglia saw Como sweep RB Leipzig aside 4-1 to celebrate a historic maiden Champions League victory, fired by goals from Baturina, Douvikas, Diao, and Perrone.
It looked as though they had belonged on this stage all along. Marking their bow in Europe’s elite club competition, Cesc Fabregas’s Como swept aside RB Leipzig 4-1 at the Sinigaglia to secure the first three points in their Champions League history.
Showing not a shred of debut stage fright, Como played with tremendous authority from the off and broke the deadlock after just 15 minutes courtesy of their number 10, Martin Baturina.
The Croatian midfielder was the sharpest to react to a weak clearance from the German defence and drilled home from the heart of the box to kick off the Lariani’s historic European adventure in style. In the 38th minute, Douvikas doubled the advantage: slipped through by Baturina, the striker found himself one-on-one with Vandevoordt and made no mistake with a cool finish.
Como showed no intention of letting up and effectively put the result beyond doubt early in the second half. Diao made it 3-0 with a blistering thunderbolt from an acute angle that left the Leipzig goalkeeper utterly helpless.
The visitors pulled one back through Maksimovic, who reduced the arrears by converting an assist from former AC Milan man Nkunku. Yet Como were not done, and late on, Perrone capped off the rout to seal a sparkling four-goal masterclass for Fabregas’s side.
