The Brazilian national team travels to Seoul World Cup Stadium to face South Korea in a friendly match in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, which should be a walk in the park for the ‘Selecao’ considering that they have not lost to an Asian team in over 25 years.
The Brazilian national team continue to prepare for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in Mexico, the United States and Canada. During the international break in October, Carlo Ancelotti’s team will visit South Korea on 10th October and finish with another friendly against Japan four days later.
The ‘Selecao’, who will be able to count on the return of Real Madrid stars Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo Goes after both were left out of the squad for September’s international break, have only fond memories of their recent encounters with Asian opposition, at least over the last 25 years.
The five-time World Cup winners have recorded 18 consecutive victories against Asian teams, with a 2-2 draw with Japan in 2005 being their last setback against an Eastern team. Since then, the Brazilians have always claimed victory when facing Asian opposition, the last time being in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when the ‘Selecao’ crushed South Korea 4-1, which will be their next opponent in this international break.
Despite being one of Brazil’s favourite victims, having lost seven of their last eight matches against them, South Korea were the last Asian team to claim victory over the ‘Selecao’, when a goal from Do-Hoon Kim secured victory for the home side in a friendly match on 28th March 1999.
Apart from that night in 1999, the Brazilians rub their hands together every time they face Asian opposition, against whom they have not lost in more than 25 years, a fact that suggests that, barring any major surprises, both friendly matches on Eastern soil should be a walk in the park for the ‘Selecao’, who landed in Seoul on Sunday night.
