With Diogo Jota and Andre Silva still fresh in their minds, Chelsea wanted to help the families of the deceased by donating part of the bonuses they received for winning the Club World Cup.
Chelsea players will donate part of the bonuses they received for winning the FIFA Club World Cup to the families of the late Diogo Jota and Andre Silva, according to ‘The Athletic’.
The Chelsea squad received around €14 million for their victory in the tournament, which amounts to around €430,000 per person, and they have decided to make a similar payment to the families of the Portuguese players who died on 3rd July in a traffic accident in Zamora (Spain).
The Premier League will pay tribute to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva this weekend with a minute’s silence at all matches, while Liverpool will display a mosaic in their memory at their match against Bournemouth on Friday.
In addition, the Reds have retired Jota’s number 20 from the first team, the youth team and the women’s team, the first time in history that they have made such a gesture.
