Real Sociedad and Girona are the only clubs in the Spanish top flight yet to bolster their squads, with over half the transfer window already elapsed.
Eighteen La Liga teams have already strengthened their squads this summer. All but two. With over two weeks of July already gone, only Real Sociedad and Girona are yet to make a single signing.
This is significant, considering both teams’ performances last season fell short of expectations. Real Sociedad failed to challenge for a European place, and Girona flirted with relegation.
Real Sociedad have also lost key player Martin Zubimendi. While the team, now managed by Sergio Francisco, is not expected to sign a direct replacement in that position, Igor Julio is reportedly close to joining, a move intended to bolster a defence that has already seen the departure of Nayef Aguerd.
At Girona, few names are currently circulating. Their primary targets last season were players on loan, such as Bryan Gil and Arthur Melo.
There are still six weeks remaining in the transfer window, but it is striking that two teams expected to overhaul their squads after disappointing seasons have yet to make a single move.
