Patrice Evra has revealed the shocking extent of his reliance on painkillers during his playing career, at times taking up to 38 tablets a day.
Professional footballers often play through injuries or discomfort, pushing their bodies to the limit week after week. For Evra, this meant a daily battle with pain that he masked with medication.
“Throughout my career, I constantly resorted to painkillers; it was part of the job,” Evra said during an event announcing his new role as an investor in KURK, a company specialising in natural anti-inflammatory treatments.
“Sometimes, even if you’re injured, you have no choice but to play. And what’s the easy solution? Take painkillers,” he admitted. “At one point, I was taking 38 pills a day.”
His confession highlights the hidden physical toll professional football can take and the pressures players face to perform despite serious discomfort.
