Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has clarified that his criticism of the club’s hierarchy following their Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano stemmed from anger and frustration, insisting that “the way forward is working together, with ambition and commitment”.
The Argentina international took to social media to share some reflections following his heated post-match outburst – which had drawn flak from several club legends – and explain his mindset: “After the match, I spoke out of anger and frustration at not getting the result we all wanted.”
“Those who know me understand how I live football: with passion, commitment and a relentless desire to win. When things do not go our way, it hurts, especially when you represent a club with the history and stature of Manchester United,” he added.
“My words reflect how I feel and how desperately I want to see this club competing for the biggest honours,” he continued. “Those high standards are central to how I see football and the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt.”
Lisandro Martinez stressed that when he demanded more, he was referring to the ambition everyone at the club must share. “To keep growing, to become stronger and to have everything we need to compete at the very highest level. These are the standards we all must uphold, starting with myself,” he affirmed.
“I know that, above all, it is down to us players to deliver, and I place myself at the forefront of that responsibility. We need to demand even more of ourselves and pull together to bring Manchester United back to the top,” the defender stated, reaffirming his faith in his teammates, the manager, and everyone working to drive the club forward.
“My objective has been the same since day one: to win, to compete at the highest level, and to give everything I have for this badge,” concluded Lisandro Martinez.
