Ilkay Gundogan, formerly of Manchester City, has signed a landmark deal with Galatasaray until 2027 in a move that has electrified Turkish football fans.
Galatasaray have concluded one of the summer’s most remarkable transfer deals by signing midfielder Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City.
The 34-year-old German-Turkish player will join the Turkish giants on a three-year contract reportedly worth €5 million net per season.
News of Gundogan’s departure was met with surprise, as his exit marks the end of an illustrious period at City where he amassed 358 appearances and 14 major trophies, including the 2023 UEFA Champions League and five Premier League titles.
Upon reaching Istanbul, Gundogan was greeted by enthusiastic supporters who had gathered to welcome him to Turkey.
“I’m very happy. It’s a proud day for me and my family. We’re very excited. We’re very happy to be here. Hopefully we’ll settle into the team quickly, get to know my teammates and play some good football,” said the player on his arrival.
His move to Galatasaray is widely considered “one of the biggest coups of the summer”. The midfielder’s leadership and international experience promise to strengthen Galatasaray’s ambitions in both domestic and European competitions.
