Leo Messi closed the chapter on the Club World Cup with a farewell message on social media after being eliminated with Inter Miami against PSG. The Argentinian is happy with his team’s performance.
Inter Miami leaves the Club World Cup with a pass mark and a grade close to a B. They are far away from the European giants, as already seen against PSG, but reached these knockout rounds. In that line was Leo Messi in his message on Instagram to put an end to the American team’s adventure in the new tournament.
“The Club World Cup ends for us with a defeat against the current Champions League champion, where there are people I appreciate, and it made me happy to see them again,” he said.
He had a reunion with Luis Enrique and also with his former teammates in the French team. Ousmane Dembele is particularly fond of him, and Donnarumma was also seen hugging the Argentine star.
Despite the elimination, Messi takes a cool look at the situation: “We leave with pride for having achieved the goal of getting among the best 16 in the tournament,” added the Rosario native, aware of the difficulty it posed for an Inter Miami side that was with Al Ahly, Palmeiras, and Porto in that first phase, and who arrived in poor form after their last months in the domestic competition.
He is already looking ahead to what’s next: “Now, to focus on the MLS and everything that is coming.” The schedule offers no respite, as Inter Miami will resume their duties in the American League on July 5th to face Montreal. They still have six matches left in the regular season.
