Los Angeles FC, who were already eliminated from the Club World Cup, closed their group stage with a 1-1 draw against Flamengo. The Brazilian team qualified for the round of 16 as group winners.
Flamengo, who had already assured themselves of top spot in the section after wins over Chelsea and Esperance, wrapped up their first-round campaign with a 1-1 draw against already-eliminated LAFC in Orlando.
Los Angeles forward Denis Bouanga threatened to give the MLS side an upset win in their final game of the tournament after a cool finish in the 84th minute, only for Wallace Yan to equalise for Flamengo two minutes later.
Thus, LAFC’s participation in the Club World Cup comes to an end and it joins the Seattle Sounders, unlike Inter Miami, which has been the only MLS team to advance to the next round in the tournament.
For their part, Flamengo now have a tough challenge ahead of them, as Filipe Luis’ side will have to eliminate Bayern Munich in the round of 16 if they are to book their ticket to the quarterfinals.
