Real Madrid secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Juventus in a match dominated by goalkeepers. Thibaut Courtois, a key figure, spoke after the win and acknowledged the need for improvement before ‘El Clasico’.
Courtois marked his 300th appearance for Madrid with a stellar performance, proving decisive in the 1-0 victory against Juventus. His focus now shifts to ‘El Clasico’ at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday, which he anticipates will be a “cracking match”.
“Both teams are in good form, and it will be a great game. After losing several matches against them, we have a chance to win this year and create a gap. It’s going to be a cracking match. We’re hoping for a victory, always with respect for them,” the Belgian said to ‘Movistar Liga de Campeones’.
Reflecting on the victory against Juventus, Courtois admitted the team needs to improve defensively before Sunday’s match, but highlighted the team’s effort in defeating the ‘Vecchia Signora’.
“Very happy with the victory. It was a very tough and hard-fought match, with chances at both ends of the pitch. We earned it with a lot of sweat. A victory against a big team. We’ve taken 9 points from 9, and now it’s time to go to Anfield,” he stated.
“At the end of the day, they are Juve, not a small team. They defend deep with all eleven players and look for the counter. It’s not easy. They caused us problems, and we need to be aware of that heading into Sunday,” he added.
Courtois praised Bellingham’s contribution, who scored the winning goal. “That’s what I like about these types of players. Vini made the play, and he was alert for the second ball, because it could fall where he was. He had a great match, like the whole team. We needed to score the 2-0 to be more comfortable, but we’re happy with the victory.”
