Raphinha, one of Barcelona’s captains and sidelined on Tuesday due to injury, called the match “robbed” due to the refereeing after the Blaugrana’s Champions League elimination at the hands of Atletico Madrid.
FC Barcelona departed this edition of the Champions League far from pleased. Raphinha, one of the dressing room’s key figures, even spoke of a “robbery” in the second leg against Atletico Madrid.
The Brazilian, who missed the game through injury, addressed the media about Clement Turpin’s performance, insisting his decisions had harmed them.
“For me, we were robbed. I believe the officiating was deeply flawed. The decisions they made were unbelievable,” he told the media present there.
Raphinha lamented Turpin’s leniency in booking opponents, or rather his failure to do so: “Atletico committed countless fouls, yet the referee failed to show them a single yellow card. What I truly want to understand is their fear of FC Barcelona winning the competition.”
Prior to this, while still on the pitch at the Metropolitano, Raphinha drew widespread criticism for his actions. The Brazilian gestured to the Atletico Madrid faithful, assuring them they would face elimination in the semi-finals.
