Dayot Upamecano reflected on the French national team’s first day under Zinedine Zidane, with spirits high at Clairefontaine.
“Above all, we really enjoyed it. Today was mainly about settling in and welcoming the new faces. It was a very, very good training session. I am delighted,” remarked Dayot Upamecano, in comments reported by ‘RMC Sport’.
“Growing up, we were all huge fans of his. Of Barthez as well, so it is a privilege to learn from him. It is hard to match Zidane’s first touch (laughs). His first words? He demanded maximum commitment out on the pitch, and that is exactly what we tried to deliver,” the France international shared.
Asked about reported friction between Mbappé and Dembélé over the Ballon d’Or debate, the defender brushed aside any talk of controversy: “We are not going to get drawn into debates. We have just finished training, we had fun out there. Look at my smile, we had fun,” he concluded.
