The Real Madrid centre-back opens up on his ordeal, asks to move forward, and admits his mistake after failing a breathalyser test this summer.
It has been a turbulent few months for Raul Asencio, as the defender acknowledged in an official statement following his acquittal over an alleged disclosure of secrets case.
“I have lived through a difficult ordeal, with reports and opinions being published before the justice system had even delivered a verdict. Behind every headline, there is a person and a family. Today, there is a ruling that speaks for itself,” he stated.
“To those who spoke about me, I ask that now the courts have ruled, this side of the story is told with the same prominence. I do not want to cause controversy; I want to close this chapter with respect and my head held high,” he continued.
The Real Madrid player also took the opportunity to apologise for failing a breathalyser test this summer: “I am deeply sorry for what happened and I take full responsibility. I am certain that it will not happen again.”
He concluded: “Now it is my turn to speak. I completely agree with my manager: not just on the pitch, but off it as well. Hala Madrid. Let no one be in any doubt.”
