Spain coach Luis de la Fuente was “shocked and devastated” by Dani Carvajal’s knee injury suffered against Villarreal on Saturday.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente said everyone is “devastated and affected” after Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal suffered a triple tear to his right knee in the final minutes of Saturday’s La Liga match against Villarreal.
“I’ve been able to talk to him. We are all devastated and very affected,” said the coach during the ceremony in which the Spanish national team received the International Sports Award of the Community of Madrid 2024 after winning the European Championship for the fourth time in their history.
Following medical tests, the full-back was diagnosed with three muscle ruptures with an estimated time out of action of between eight and ten months. Ex-Madrid player Joselu feels as if it had happened to him and underlined that he is sure he will come back “stronger than ever”.
“Carvajal is very sad but he will surely teach us a lesson. He is my family and I feel as if it had happened to me. I wish him the best of recoveries because he deserves it and I’m sure that because of the way he is and because of how professional he is, he will recover very well and come back stronger than ever,” he said.
