Scamacca to miss Madrid Super Cup clash with ruptured ACL

‘Sky Sport’s Angelo Mangiante has given Gianluca Scamacca’s diagnosis following the knee injury he suffered in Atalanta’s friendly match against Parma. The Italy striker has torn his anterior cruciate ligament, meniscus and medial collateral ligament. He is expected to be out for six, seven or even eight months, meaning he will miss not only the European Super Cup, but practically the whole season.

Gianluca Scamacca finished last season with 19 goals and 7 assists for Atalanta. It was the best year of his career. His performances made him a candidate for a starting place up front for the Italian national team, with whom he was the main offensive asset in a disappointing European Championship. Unfortunately for the striker, he will not be able to make amends at international level or enjoy continuity at domestic level.

On Monday morning, journalist Angelo Mangiante of ‘Sky Sport’ revealed the diagnosis of the knee injury he suffered in the friendly match against Parma on Sunday. It is known that he has torn his anterior cruciate ligament, meniscus and medial collateral ligament, which means he will be out for six, seven or even eight months. He will not be available for the European Super Cup against Real Madrid, but also for most of the season.

The Bergamo striker has been treated at Villa Stuart, one of the most established clinical centres among those with the blessing of FIFA, which tends to mediate in such major setbacks. The hospital has been inactive on its social media for five years, so content that used to be of interest when its patients’ recovery processes were shared is no longer accessible.

For Scamacca, the injury means he is out of Atalanta’s plans for this season and also Luciano Spalletti’s as they begin preparations for the 2026 World Cup, so the news is even worse than first assumed. With a contract until 2027 and a market value of 36.9 million euros, he was also set to be a talking point in the final days of the transfer window.
