Barcelona’s search for new midfielder can be put on hold

Barcelona have a clear roadmap as far as signings are concerned. The priority is Nico Williams, according to ‘Sport’, and depending on the departures that occur, the entity will seek to strengthen other positions. Although the board would like to sign a midfielder, it is not crucial.

The ‘Cules’ hope to close their first signing as soon as possible. Bacelona are fighting tooth and nail to land Nico Williams, for whom they are thinking of asking for a loan to secure his arrival.

The 58 million that Barcelona will have to pay for the Athletic striker means that the rest of the possible arrivals have been put on the back burner. Another of the positions to reinforce would be the midfield, however it is not a priority.

‘Sport’ claims that tying down a midfielder in the short term has been relegated to the background. The number one target is Nico Williams and no further reinforcements will be considered until departures begin to take place.

For the midfield, Mikel Merino is very much liked. Real Sociedad’s midfielder is the favourite, as his signing would not exceed 25-30 million euros. But to be able to afford his transfer, the Catalan side will have to cash in on him.

Hansi Flick, for the moment, is delighted by the youth players Marc Bernal, Marc Casado and Noah Darvich, so there is no hurry to improve this area. The plan could be to wait for the last few weeks of the summer market to try to get some transfer if, finally, the signing of Mikel Merino could not be carried out.

There are still days of frenetic movement and Barcelona, calculator in hand, are confident of being able to reinforce the team to have a squad of guarantees in the 2024-25.
