Joao Felix sets Benfica as plan B for his future

Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix is looking for a new destination for next season. Benfica have joined the race for the Portuguese’s services, but the Lisbon outfit are not a priority for him, according to reports in Portugal.

Joao Felix does not yet know where he will play next season, but both his and Atletico Madrid’s wish is to go their separate ways. The Spanish club’s plan is to secure a transfer after a number of loan moves.

Benfica joined the race for the Portuguese’s services and it was reported that a deal between the Portuguese and Spaniards was close to being done. But, according to ‘A Bola’, the Lisbon outfit are not a priority for the forward.

Both Joao Felix and his agent Jorge Mendes want to look for a destination in a better league. Returning to Portugal would be giving up and taking a step backwards. As a result, joining Benfica is just another option for the former Chelsea player.

Benfica also do not see a complete need to bring back their academy player as they have a large number of strikers on their payroll. Moreover, they are not willing to pay too high a fee for his services and could not offer him a huge salary.

Meanwhile, Atletico want to make as much money as possible out of the deal as they paid more than 100 million euros for his transfer.
