OFFICIAL: Napoli land Benfica winger David Neres on €30m deal

Napoli made official on Wednesday the signing of David Neres from Benfica. The left winger joins Serie A for a fee of 30 million euros and is committed to the ‘Azzurri’ until 30th June 2028.

Napoli officially announced on Wednesday the signing of Brazilian winger David Neres. The Brazilian winger, who joins from Benfica, represents an investment of 30 million euros and signs his contract until 30th June 2028.

“Napoli announce that they have definitively acquired the sporting services of David Neres from Benfica,” the club said in a statement. He landed in Rome on Sunday and arrived at the Villa Stuart clinic in the Italian capital early on Monday morning to pass his medical.

With Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen sidelined as he seeks a move away from the club, the 27-year-old Neres looks a great alternative for Antonio Conte’s attack. He will be available for the clash against Bologna in the second round of Serie A fixtures. In the opener, Napoli suffered a painful defeat against Hellas Verona (3-0).

The coach’s plan is to use him as a winger, alternating with Italian Mateo Politano, who started the first matchday. Up front, the Argentinian Giovanni Simeone will continue – in principle – while awaiting the arrival of the Belgian Romelu Lukaku. Last season, the Brazilian scored 5 goals and provided 8 assists in the 24 games he played in the Portuguese League.
